Why Ratings?
Because we believe it is important to be able to measure the quality of your movie going experience. Our one-to-ten star rating system enables us to give fair and accurate ratings for the movies we see.
How do user ratings work?
User ratings allow site viewers to contribute their own opinions on the quality of various movie experiences. However RER reserves the right to remove any comments or ratings that are inappropriate. Although all opinions are welcome, not all are appropriate or relevant to the review.
What does each ratings mean?
This is how it works:
10/10 Red Eye Review Classic
This ratings is reserved for the one-off classic movies that really shine above any other film. They are often flawless in execution and delivery. The people involved with the film have mastered all the elements essential to make the magic happen.
We do not give these awards out lightly, and decisions are made by the RER board before stamps are given out
9/10 Near Perfection
This rating is given to films that are near perfection. They may just lack the universal excellence that a classic will always contain. The way a film ages and it’s cross-cultural appeal may have an affect on the overall rating of this film.
8/10 Excellent Work
A film with an eight-out-of-ten ratings is often a solid and entertaining piece of cinema. Essential parts of the film-making process have not been ignored but may have been executed weakly – for example acting or cinematography.
While the film is not perfect it is still worth buying and definitely a second visit to the cinema.
7/10 Good Effort
This rating will be given to a film that is a good piece of work, but can be left until it hits the shelves of your local Blockbusters. This caliber of film is the most consistently over or under rated film. We will frequently give this rating if we think the audience could go either way.
6/10 Straight to Video
A film that would attract this rating would be something that still contains elements that are entertaining but it somewhat fails to deliver what it promises. If you had too much popcorn one night, or you wanted to ensure that your date got bored enough to kiss you this would be the film for you.
5/10 Half the Directors brain shows up
This rating means a few good moments, perhaps a funny cameo and some good acting. These kind of films are often fast forwarded at various points. Perhaps you meant Pulp Fiction not Pap Fiction, which is what you got.
4/10 Get your eyes tested
A couple of laughs and not much else, don’t go back to books quite yet. Often this kind of film was probably made because they had to find a vehicle for another Disney kid or something…
3/10 Let’s hope you were drunk when you made this…
Only those who make the film watch the film.
2/10 Why are we still rating this?
Because otherwise our lives have been wasted.
1/10 Because somebody cared enough to finish it.
Not everyone can be Scorsese nor will they ever be.
