Review
Iron Man is the story of one mans journey of moral redemption. Tony Stark is a billionaire genius inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Instead he uses his keen mind and cunning to build a high-tech suit of armour and escape captivity. He discovers the truth of his weapons manufacturing, and their creation of victims of war. He resolves to protect the world as Iron Man, his iron suit alter-ego.
Movie going entertainment doesn't come much better than Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr, swaggers through the role of Tony Stark and the special effects teams come up with a click and impressive Iron Man character. What is so great about this film is that the story and characters have not been left behind by the producers. By casting Robert Downey Jr. and Jeff Bridges as the two main opposing forces, they guarantee that the acting will be as interesting and rich as possible. Thankfully the actors do not become caricatures, by overplaying the parts as so often happens in comic book movies. Gwyneth Paltrow is demure and classic as always, even in this unchallenging role as Tony Starks long time assistant and secret love. With the choice of Gwyneth Paltrow, the producers are signifying their intention to be taken seriously and move the world of comic book movies into the modern action movie genre; alongside stylish action thrillers like The Bourne Identity. Iron Man has all the essential elements for an entertaining action film. The sound is top notch, the visuals and special effects are incredible, acting is perfect for what is required and the direction is paced nicely and well managed. The only criticism I could level is that the idea of the film is a little unbelievable and some of the aspects of the film are over the top. However this will always be a criticism that can we directed at comic action-adventure movies and they must take it in their stride. Finally, this film is funny not only the performance of Robert Downey Jr. but also the way the script has been written. This is a Robert Downey Jr. film without doubt, but there is more than enough to make the film a complete package. Alongside the humour the serious issue of the weapons manufacturing is looked at. Other issues like human relations and politics are brought into the mix as well. If you like fun, slick, comic-book action-adventure films with cool explosions, great acting and incredible special effects this is the movie for you. People
