Widely regarded as one of the most overlooked and underappreciated films at the box office, this great underground epic brought together three legendary elements, Stephen King's short stories, Morgan Freeman's voice over talent and Thomas Newmans heart wrenching musical scores (see also American Pie, Green Mile).

This film brings together such a wonderful cast and crew of film professionals that this really is a special moment in film. It tells the tale of Andy Dufresne a small town bank manager, falsely convicted and imprisoned for the murder of his wife and her lover.

Andy faces the harsh realities of this brutal 1940's prison and it's fanatical Warden, with a stern determination and quiet resolve. We are taken on an emotional rollercoaster through an intelligently written and evocatively directed film with Morgan Freeman's powerful narration coaxing us through the ups and downs of heinous abuse and camaraderie to an emotional conclusion of poignant significance.
